Both Sabre Corp. and Lufthansa Group are moving some of their technology infrastructure to Google Cloud to tap into Google's data analytics capabilities.
Sabre and Google have signed a 10-year agreement through which Sabre will move its IT infrastructure to Google Cloud's services and use its data analytics tools to "enhance the capabilities of current and future products," according to Sabre. "We believe our partnership will deliver more personalized experiences for travelers, saving time and providing greater convenience that will ultimately raise the standard for the travel industry overall," Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said in a statement.
Lufthansa Group, meanwhile, is working with Google Cloud to build a new operations platform that will help the airline group better manage irregular operations. By merging such data as crew scheduling and aircraft replacement and maintenance, the platform will use artificial intelligence to suggest scenarios to manage through extreme weather and other operational interruptions.
"By combining Google Cloud's technology with Lufthansa Group's operational expertise, we are driving the digitization of our operation even further," according to Lufthansa Group executive board member Detlef Kayser. "This will enable us to identify possible flight irregularities even earlier and implement countermeasures at an early stage."
The group plans to first test the platform with Swiss International Air Lines in Zurich.
