Hotel booking volume through global distribution systems in
June was 0.7 percent higher than the year prior, according to Pegasus
Solutions. The average daily rate on those bookings was down 0.7 percent year
over year.
Regionally, June GDS hotel reservations were up slightly in
North America, down slightly in South America and Europe and down by 10.4
percent in the Africa/Asia/Oceania region. The latter drop stemmed from "a
combination of influences, such as slower economic growth in China and India
and renewed political instability in the Middle East," according to
Pegasus.
For the first six months of 2013, year-over-year global GDS
bookings are up 3.2 percent, and the ADR on those bookings is up 0.8 percent.
The data shows "continued strong business travel demand" and that "corporations
are cautiously utilizing more travel to build profits," according to
Pegasus.
In the coming months, Pegasus projects GDS bookings will "remain
healthy" while ADR stays close to last year's levels, possibly increasing
in September and October.
