U.S. hotel industry performance metrics showed continued slippage in October compared with September, according to STR. Occupancy increased a tick to 48.3 percent compared with 48 percent for the prior month, yet that level represents a 30.1 percent decline from October 2019.
October average daily rate and revenue per available room each came in lower than September levels. ADR declined 26.8 percent from 2019 to $97.61. RevPAR was down 48.8 percent year over year to $47.13.
Occupancy for the week ending Nov. 14 was 43.2 percent, its lowest level since June, according to STR.
For October, the top 25 markets showed lower occupancy levels but higher ADR than all other markets. Oahu continues to show the lowest occupancy, at 22 percent. The market, however, reported the highest ADR at $157.71, though it was down 30.9 percent year over year.
Norfolk/Virginia Beach reported the highest occupancy level at 53.2 percent, followed by Phoenix at 51.9 percent and Atlanta at 51.4 percent.
