American Airlines for summer 2027 plans to add seven international routes, including three to new destinations, the carrier announced Aug. 27.
The new routes each will fly daily to and from Philadelphia and include Porto, Portugal, set to start March 28, Vienna on May 6 and Reykjavik on May 27, which will be the first time since 2019 American will offer flights to the Icelandic capital, according to the carrier. The Vienna route will extend beyond the summer and operate through early January.
The Porto and Vienna routes will operate with Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Reykjavik will operate with Airbus A321neo aircraft.
The four new routes to cities already served include:
- Chicago-Tokyo Narita, starting March 19 and operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft
- New York JFK-Amsterdam to start March 28 with Airbus A321XLR aircraft
- New York JFK-Nice, France, to begin May 6 with Airbus A321XLR aircraft
- Charlotte-Barcelona, beginning May 27 with Boeing 777-200ER aircraft
Each of the four new routes will operate daily, according to American.
In addition, the carrier as of March 28 will expand its New York JFK-London Heathrow service to four flights daily, operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft configured with American's new Flagship Suite seats. Further, the carrier will move up to March 4 the launch of two returning summer routes in time for spring break: Charlotte-Paris and Miami-Milan.
The American announcement comes two days after United announced 10 international destination additions to its network for the summer 2027 schedule.
