Nearly half of employees surveyed in the United Kingdom indicated they manage their expenses using a spreadsheet, according to a report released Tuesday by travel and expense management provider KDS. Automated expense management systems were used by 42 percent of respondents.
A total of 1,235 fulltime employees in the United Kingdom between the ages of 18 and 65 and with household incomes of at least £35,000 were surveyed online between Feb. 11 and Feb. 19, 2015.
The report also found that the smaller the company, the more likely employees are to use spreadsheets for expense management. Sixty-six percent of respondents working for companies with between 101 and 500 employees indicated they used spreadsheets to file claims, while 26 percent of respondents at companies with more than 10,000 employees did so.
The survey also showed that "just over one in five employees exaggerate their expenses." While most respondents surveyed, 78 percent, claimed they reported the exact amount they paid for a taxi on blank receipts, 16 percent added a "small amount," 5 percent added "a couple of pounds," and 1 percent doubled the fare or more, according to the report.
