United Continental Holdings through 2013 will pump $550
million into onboard products, including a flat-bed seat expansion, a
"nose-to-tail renovation" of its transcontinental P.S. service and
its connectivity offerings.
United next month will begin installing flat-bed seats on 26
Continental and United Boeing 767 aircraft, which serve transatlantic, Latin
and Hawaiian markets. Through 2013, the carrier plans to retrofit its P.S.
service between New York and San Francisco and Los Angeles with new flat-bed
seats, Economy Plus seats and power ports "at every row."
Meanwhile, the carrier next March plans to double overhead
bin space on all Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.
The $550 million investment also includes United's previously
announced inflight wireless Internet rollout and the planned expansion of Economy Plus to the Continental Airlines fleet.
