Singapore Airlines, in partnership with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and global investment company Temasek, has selected ExxonMobil for sustainable aviation fuel as part of a one-year pilot on the use of SAF in Singapore, the organizations announced.
The carrier will purchase from ExxonMobil blended SAF, composed of 1.25 million liters of "neat" SAF—sustainable fuels that are mixed or undiluted—which will be supplied by Neste and produced from used cooking oil and waste animal fats. It will be blended with refined jet fuel at ExxonMobil's facilities in Singapore. Changi Airport is scheduled to receive the fuel by the end of July 2022 via the airport's existing fuel hydrant systems.
From the third quarter of 2022, all Singapore Airlines and Scoot flights plan to use this blended fuel for one year. The carrier expects the pilot to reduce about 2,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
The carrier did not immediately respond to a request for detail about the role Temasek has in the pilot.
