The U.S. Department of Transportation has issued its final approval of slot exemptions at Reagan Washington National Airport, allowing five carriers to offer new nonstop round-trip service, the agency announced this week.
The carriers and their approved service are:
- Alaska Airlines, which will offer service to San Diego
- American Airlines, which will offer service to San Antonio, Texas. The carrier on Friday said daily service would begin March 2, and tickets for the flights would go on sale Dec. 23.
- Delta Air Lines, which will offer service to Seattle. The carrier on Thursday said service would begin March 9 on Airbus A321neo aircraft.
- Southwest Airlines, which will offer service to Las Vegas
- United Airlines, which will offer service to San Francisco
The carriers earlier this year had applied for the service after the passage in May of the U.S. Federation Aviation Administration reauthorization bill, which included exemptions to enable five new slots at Reagan National.
DOT in October tentatively approved the new routes. Carriers that applied for the open slots but were denied included Frontier Airlines, JetBlue and Spirit Airlines, each of which had requested permission to offer service to San Juan, P.R.
