Singapore Airlines is starting nonstop service between Singapore and New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport next month, the carrier announced.
On Nov. 9, the carrier will begin operating three weekly flights on the route using Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Singapore Airlines flew to six U.S. gateways —nonstop to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newark and Seattle as well as Houston via Manchester and JFK via Frankfurt—prior to the pandemic, but it so far has resumed service only to Los Angeles.
The JFK route is "an important step in the rebuilding of our global network," according to Singapore Airlines EVP of commercial Lee Lik Hsin.
"Our customers say that they are increasingly confident about air travel, given the robust health and safety measures that are in place, as well as testing regimes to protect them and our staff," he said in a statement. "This optimism is also driven by recent moves by countries such as Singapore, which are easing the restrictions gradually on both transit and inbound passengers in a safe manner."
The JFK route also is accommodating an anticipated "significant cargo demand" from companies in the pharmaceutical, e-commerce and technology industries in the New York area, according to the carrier.
