Travel management by policy has taken its fair share of PR
hits in recent months amid continued concerns about access to content through designated channels and the rise of
younger travelers in the workforce, plus the various announcements of solutions
to address it all. But a new poll shows compliance to corporate travel policies
is holding its own, if not improving.
About two-thirds of more than 2,300 business travelers
polled this week at seven U.S. airports said their companies have travel
policies, and 21 percent of those respondents said their compliance to those
policies during the past two years has increased while 12 percent said it had
decreased. The remainder indicated their compliance had remained the same in
that timeframe.
Polled for Business
Travel News by Wi-Fi advertising network Cloud Nine Media, the travelers
were surveyed as they logged in to the airports' wireless networks. If they
indicated they travel for business, they were asked whether their firms have
travel policies, if and how their compliance to those policies had changed and
the size of their companies by revenue. The travelers were granted free Wi-Fi
in return for participating.
The 541 respondents working for companies with more than
$500 million in annual sales were most likely to say their compliance had
increased, at 25 percent, versus 9 percent who said compliance fell during the
past two years. One in five respondents from companies with annual revenues
below $500 million said compliance had grown, versus 13 percent who said it had
fallen.
