On Feb. 29, South African Airways will end several routes as it restructures out of bankruptcy.
International routes to be cut include service from Johannesburg to Entebbe, Uganda; Guangzhou, China; Hong Kong; Livingstone, Zambia; Luanda, Angola; Munich; Ndola, Zambia; and Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, via Accra, Ghana. On its domestic network, the carrier will continue to service Cape Town "on a reduced basis" and is ending operations to other domestic destinations, including Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth.
Other long-haul routes will remain, including service between Johannesburg and Frankfurt, London Heathrow, New York, Perth and Washington, D.C., via Accra. Its low-cost subsidiary Mango will continue to operate its domestic routes as well.
South African Airways said it "does not intend to make any further significant network changes" as it continues the restructuring process. The carrier is working on a business rescue plan to be published later this month for creditor approval.
