Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines are in the process of joining their operations at multiple airport locations, the carriers announced Tuesday.
Hawaiian check-in operations at Los Angeles International Airport on Tuesday moved to Terminal 6, co-locating with Alaska. Hawaiian today also launched operations at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport's Terminal 8 as part of a "months-long transition from Terminal 4."
Alaska also is moving to JFK Terminal 8, from Terminal 7, and expects the transition to be complete by October.
The move to JFK Terminal 8 "enhances connectivity" with Alaska's Oneworld partners, including American Airlines and British Airways. When Alaska's move is complete, Terminal 8 will house 10 Oneworld carriers, according to American.
In addition, Alaska and Hawaiian first-class customers traveling out of JFK Terminal 8 on flights longer than 2,000 miles now have access to American's Admirals Club, according to American. Customers on flights that are more than 2,000 miles who are traveling in a premium cabin that includes a lie-flat product will have access to American's Greenwich Lounge.
The overall co-location project began last year after the Alaska and Hawaiian merger. Hawaiian has relocated next to Alaska in the Harvey Milk Terminal 1 at San Francisco International Airport, and was followed by moves at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, according to Alaska.
Future airports with co-location plans include those in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and Sacramento, Calif., with completion expected later this year, according to Alaska.
