India-based lodging company Oyo Hotels has appointed Kasra Moshkani to lead its U.S. business division, the company announced. Moshkani since October 2019 headed the company's Eastern U.S. operations. He started his new position Sept. 1.
The move comes two months after Oyo laid off about 90 percent of its U.S. employees, many of whom previously had been furloughed, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company said the appointment "comes as a positive move as Oyo reiterates its commitment to the U.S. hospitality industry and chalks its path to recovery in the coming months."
Like other lodging companies, Oyo since March has seen a significant decline in its business, but said that during the past three months it has recorded sustained levels of recovery, with revenue per available room recently reaching nearly 92 percent of its pre-Covid levels. The company also said it has added 8,000 rooms in the U.S. since January, bringing its inventory in the region to nearly 20,000 rooms in 37 states.
Prior to joining Oyo, Moshkani worked for Uber Technologies, Grain Partners & Advisors and MyClean. He also co-founded the human resources startup HireBrite.
