Transient hotel bookings made through global
distribution systems rose 2.2 percent year over year during the second quarter,
according to the TravelClick North American Distribution Review.
The report stated that transient hotel booking
growth for online travel agencies (9.7 percent), brand sites (5.8 percent) and
GDS channels indicate clear momentum in mobile booking.
“Mobile bookings are increasing at impressive
levels, and we anticipate the trend continuing into the foreseeable future,”
said TravelClick senior industry analyst John Hach. “It’s not just millennials
who are using their mobile devices to research and book rooms. It’s happening
across all major consumer segments. Interestingly, the GDS continues to
demonstrate growth, especially with higher ADR bookings.”
TravelClick’s NADR aggregates hotel bookings by
channel for the transient segment, both business and leisure, and is based on data for 25 major North
American markets.
The second-quarter average daily rate increased 4.4
percent year over year across GDSs, brand sites, OTAs, direct hotel interactions
and hotel phone lines. GDS bookings experienced the largest ADR growth of any
channel, 4.9 percent.
The GDSs also captured 19.3 percent of transient
bookings, while direct brand sites grabbed the most market share, 29.1 percent.
Based on advance transient bookings, ADR in the
third quarter is expected to increase 4.7 percent from the same quarter in
2014. ADR for GDS bookings is projected to increase 4.6 percent.
