United Airlines is cutting requirements to help current MileagePlus Premier members maintain their status into next year, the carrier announced.
The new program lets members from Silver, Gold, Platinum and 1K tiers keep their status if they meet 20 percent of the usual requirements before Nov. 30. Silver members, for example, will need four qualifying flights and 600 qualifying points, or 700 qualifying points alone, to keep their status through Jan. 31, 2023.
The carrier also has introduced a qualifying points bonus, based on status as of July 27, for the first three flights booked from Aug. 6 through Nov. 30. Non-elite members, for example, earn 250 points for the first flight and 75 each for the next two, while Silver members earn 350 points for the first flight and 100 each for the next two.
United last month announced that it was extending Global Status for members who had earned it to last through the same period, though the extension did not apply to Global Status corporate traveler members who did not earn the status through travel but through nomination from the company.
