April on-time performance for North American carriers reversed course again, improving after slipping in March, according to aviation analytics company Cirium's latest report.
The carriers' weighted on-time performance average increased 7 percentage points month over month to 78 percent, with all 10 reporting carriers posting increases for the period.
Alaska Airlines in April had the highest on-time performance for a second consecutive month at 85.5 percent, followed by Delta Air Lines at 84.2 percent.
Three carriers had double-digit percentage-point improvements—WestJet (up 15.3 percentage points), Air Canada (up 14.5 percentage points) and Spirit Airlines, which ceased operations on May 2 (up 11 percentage points). WestJet's improvement moved it into third place for April, up from eighth in March.

Delta was the only North American carrier to make Cirium's April list of global on-time airlines, in eighth place. SAS topped that list at 89.5 percent
In April, Alaska led the North American carriers for completion factor at 99.5 percent, followed by WestJet at 99.4 percent and Delta at 99.3 percent.
The number of North American flights canceled in April was 7,718 compared with 22,792 in March.
A flight is considered on time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival time.
