Alaska Airlines later this year will add five new destinations from Los Angeles International Airport as well as additional service to Florida from the West Coast.
The new LAX service includes daily flights to both Medford and Eugene in Oregon beginning Oct. 1; daily service to both Tampa and Bozeman, Mont., plus four weekly flights to Fort Myers, Fla., all beginning Nov. 20; three weekly flights to Kona, Hawaii, beginning Dec. 17; and four weekly flights to Lihue, Hawaii, beginning Dec. 18. Alaska already had announced that it would start two daily flights from LAX to Fresno, Calif., beginning Sept. 1 in addition to service to Redmond, Ore.; Spokane, Wash.; Boise, Idaho; and Missoula, Mont., which started earlier this year.
Alaska managing director of capacity planning and alliances Brett Catlin said that LAX was one of the carrier's "important hub markets" with "valuable opportunities for selective expansion," particularly as Alaska readies for entry into the Oneworld alliance next year.
The new Florida service, set to begin in late November, includes four weekly flights between Portland, Ore., and Fort Lauderdale, four weekly flights between Seattle and Fort Myers and three weekly flights between San Diego and Fort Lauderdale.
