Worldspan today said it rehired Gary Tofano to fill the role of corporate sales director, reporting to vice president of strategic accounts Cheryl Weldon. Trofano previously served as a Sabre sales manager after a decade at Worldspan in a number of management roles. "Gary's strong background in travel industry sales and his demonstrated leadership ability will greatly contribute to the continued growth of Worldspan's corporate travel business, and we are delighted that he is rejoining our team," Weldon said in a press statement.
Trofano had created the sales and account management team that launched Worldspan's Trip Manager corporate booking tool in the mid-1990s, after beginning his career in the airline industry with TWA and Northwest Airlines. According to a spokesperson, Trofano will market the newest version of that product, called Trip Manager XE, as well as the services of Worldspan agency subscribers.
After a recent review of Trip Manager
(BTNonline, March 4), Worldspan "concluded it is a very critical part of the product portfolio," said senior vice president and general manager of worldwide travel distribution Mike Parks. Worldspan added resources and programmers to the product and redesigned the user interface.
