The U.S. State Department on Thursday issued a level 4 travel advisory—the highest level of warning—for all U.S. citizens, telling them to avoid international travel due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
"In countries where commercial departure options remain available, U.S. citizens who live in the United States should arrange for immediate return to the United States, unless they are prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period," according to the State Department.
The advisory cited the travel restrictions, mandatory quarantines, border closings and prohibition of entry to non-citizens many countries are implementing in response to the Covid-19 outbreak and the suspension and cancellation of trips by airlines and cruise ships.
"If you choose to travel internationally, your travel plans may be severely disrupted, and you may be forced to remain outside of the United States for an indefinite timeframe," according to the advisory.
