As the coronavirus continues to spread, several hotel companies have updated and/or extended their cancellation and change policies for the Greater China region.
- Accor will provide the option to amend bookings for guests planning to travel to Accor properties in Greater China free of charge until Feb. 29, 2020, according to a company spokesperson.
- Choice Hotels has authorized penalty-free cancellations for anyone traveling from China to a U.S. or Canadian hotel for reasons related to the coronavirus, and for anyone requiring cancellation of upcoming reservations at any property based in China if they are no longer traveling due to the concern around the coronavirus, according to a company statement.
- Hilton Worldwide's modification and cancellation waiver for guests who plan to travel to any Hilton-branded property in China, as well as for guests who plan to travel from China to a Hilton-branded property elsewhere, now is in place through Feb. 29, according to a company spokesperson. There are no booking channel restrictions. Hilton encourages guests with additional questions about their reservations to contact Hilton Guest Assistance.
- Hyatt Hotels Corp. is waiving cancellation fees through Feb. 29 for Greater China travelers with reservations at Hyatt hotels elsewhere and for all guests with reservations at Hyatt hotels in Greater China, per a company statement. Guests who booked via Hyatt official channels should contact the nearest Hyatt Global Contact Center or reach the company via WeChat at HyattHotels. Guests who booked through online travel agents or other third parties should contact the booking provider for assistance.
- InterContinental Hotels Group guests traveling through Feb. 29 to or from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan can change or cancel a valid booking made via the IHG hotel, IHG.com, the IHG app or the IHG central reservations center without financial penalty, according to a company spokesperson. In the U.S., this policy includes guests who were recently physically present within China and are unable to enter the U.S. under current federal travel policies. Guests with bookings made by a travel agent or through an online booking platform should contact their agent.
- Langham Hospitality Group will provide a full refund and waive all related fees on cancellations for stays through Feb. 29 for direct bookings at Langham and Cordis hotels in mainland China and Hong Kong, according to a company spokesperson. Langham also will provide a full refund on cancellations and waive all related fees for travelers originating from China for stays through 29 at its other hotels.
- Marriott International is waiving cancellation fees for hotel stays through Feb. 29 for guests with reservations in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and for guests from those locations traveling outbound to other Marriott destinations, according to a company statement.
- Peninsula Hotels said it would waive cancellation charges for any booking made with the company's hotels in Greater China, which includes Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing, according to a company spokesperson. There currently is no deadline for the cancellations.
- Radisson Hotel Group guests with reservations in any of Radisson's China hotels can request a cancellation free of charge through Feb. 29, regardless of booking channel. Guests can contact hotels directly or call Radisson Hotels Customer Care.
- Shangri-La Hotels will waive cancellation charges for guests traveling to any of its hotels in China and for guests planning to travel from China through Feb. 29, regardless of booking channel, according to a company statement.
- Wyndham Hotels and Resorts will waive cancellation or change penalties for guests traveling to or from China with direct bookings for stays in any Wyndham hotel through Feb. 29, according to a company statement.
