BTN estimates PwC spent $260 million in U.S.-booked air volume in
2024. The PwC U.S. firm recently
overhauled its travel program to implement a new direct-connect and direct-pay
configuration, supported by blockchain travel startup BlockSkye.
The firm has seen numerous
benefits from the new structure—as detailed in BTN’s article naming a
PwC travel procurement
duo as
co-Travel
Managers of the Year in 2023 and in a newer case
study released by PwC this year. In short, the company has gained
transparency into and reduced costs, decreased booking and servicing friction
for travelers, increased compliance and increased the quality of travel data
through its new approach.
The firm’s sourcing strategy prioritizes suppliers in the booking
tool according to the value of their negotiated deals combined with each suppliers’
ability to participate in PwC’s
direct-connect strategy. The distribution and payment savings gained via this new
approach are being reinvested into the firm’s
travel program.
PwC has achieved a 43 percent absolute
reduction in Scope 3 business
travel GHG emissions relative to 2019
and has a goal to reach a 50 percent reduction relative
to 2019 by 2030.
