Google's U.S.-booked air volume in 2024 increased to $256.3 million
from $183.2 million in the previous year. The amount of internal travel
decreased to 37 percent in 2024 from 42 percent in 2023, while the company's
global T&E spend increased by nearly one-third during the same period.
About 61 percent of domestic air is booked through preferred online booking
tools, and of that total, 83 percent was booked without agent assistance.
The company has a pre-trip approval process in place.
In 2024, Google went through a transition year from an organization
perspective, and in the fourth quarter completed a successful pilot with an
OBT. Goals for 2025 include enhancing the travel program value and influence,
and optimizing supplier
performance, the travel booking experience and vendor partnerships. Google also
plans to accelerate New Distribution Capability adoption and drive innovation
in air travel procurement.
The company uses generative AI-supported internal travel
communications as well as off-channel data capture technology, and hotel and
airline reshopping tools. Google's travel team consolidated
meetings data in 2024 and leveraged
meetings and transient travel spend in 2025 hotel negotiations.
According to its latest sustainability report, Google's total
emissions in 2024 were 11.5 million
metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, down from the 14.3 tCO2e reported in
2023. Business travel, or Scope 3, emissions were 399,000 tCO2e, up from the
283,000 tCO2e reported a year earlier.
Google's parent company Alphabet reported $350
billion in 2024 revenue, up from $307.4
billion a year prior. The company employed about
183,300 individuals as
of Dec. 31, 2024, up slightly from the 182,500
reported at the end of
2023.
