2024 U.S.-Booked Air Volume: $48 million
Consolidated U.S. TMC: Amex GBT
Citigroup spent about $48 million in U.S.-booked air travel for employees in 2024, according to a BTN estimate, up from the $43 million estimated a year prior.
The company encourages the use of web and videoconferencing rather than business travel when possible, as well as the use of rail as an alternative to short-haul flights. Citi also offers electric vehicle rentals as a reimbursable travel expense and is working to transition its corporate vehicle fleet to electric and hybrid models, according to Citi's latest sustainability report.
It also is configuring its travel booking tool to highlight sustainable travel options, such as allowing employees to see emissions data related to their air travel and providing visibility into hotel sustainability programs and performance. Citi includes carbon emissions data on travel invoices and measures individual business travel footprints at a granular level.
The company in 2024 had a Scope 3, Category 6 business travel footprint of 70,805 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, down from the 77,004 reported in 2023.
Citi's 2024 revenue increased to $81.1 billion from $78.5 billion a year prior. As of Dec. 31, 2024, the company had approximately 229,000 full-time employees, down about 10,000 from 2023.
