Global
pharmaceutical and biotechnology company Bayer increased spending on
U.S.-booked air travel to $47.7 million in 2024, up from $33.7 million the
previous year.
The
company implemented a new “Dynamic Shared Ownership” operating model last
January, resulting in approximately €500 million in savings for 2024 following
CEO Bill Anderson’s efforts to streamline operations and cut more than 5,000
managerial jobs. According to Bayer’s 2024 annual report, an additional €800
million in cost savings is projected for 2025.
Bayer in
2024 reduced Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, which include business travel,
by 12.7 percent compared with its base year of 2019. Actions to reduce
emissions from business travel include the increased use of virtual meetings
and the creation of a “special information page” for employees on the
connection between travel and sustainability.
Company
sales in 2024 totaled €46.6 billion, down about 2.2 percent year over year. As
of Dec. 31, 2024, Bayer employed more than 92,800 people, down from 99,720 in
2023.
