Defense and aerospace company BAE Systems Inc. spent $37 million on U.S.-booked air volume in 2024, up 16 percent from $32 million in 2023.
The company—the U.S. division of its U.K.-based parent—kicked off a global rental car request for proposals in 2024 and began a full reimplementation of Concur Travel and Expense. This year it is reassessing major airline partnerships and evaluating its options for providing NDC content via the Concur booking tool.
Currently, 87 percent of its U.S.-booked airline tickets are booked through its preferred online tools. Internal travel accounted for 27 percent of the company’s activity in 2024 and around 55 percent of U.S. air spend went on domestic trips. The organization is not expected to fully return to the office but does expect business travel spending to return to pre-pandemic levels in the next couple of years.
As of Dec. 31, 2024, the company employed around 36,200 people in the U.S.—just over a third of the wider company’s global workforce. Those numbers were boosted by the acquisition in February 2024 of Ball Aerospace (now operating as BAE Space & Mission Systems) whose 5,000 employees were integrated into BAE Systems Inc.'s travel program in September.
The company posted global sales of £28.3 billion in 2024, of which U.S.-based BAE Systems Inc. contributed some £12.5 billion or 44 percent.
