Hotel occupancy and rates in gateway European cities
increased significantly year over year in October, according to TRI Hospitality
Consulting's European Chain Hotels Market Review.
Average rate increases topped 20 percent in Amsterdam. In
Paris, rates increased by 18.4 percent year over year, and rates also increased
by 10 percent or more in Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest and London. Prague and
Budapest were the exceptions, with rates decreasing by 2.6 percent and 11.1
percent, respectively.
The largest occupancy increases were in Barcelona, up 17.3
percent, and Amsterdam, up 16.1 percent. Occupancy increased by 10.5 percent in
Prague and by less than 5 percent in other major cities. Vienna was the only
city in the review to see an occupancy decrease, down 1 percent from October
2009.
