Airline capacity to, from
and within Europe this month will grow 7 percent compared with the same period
last year, according to scheduled air services data released this week from
OAG.
Airline seat capacity in
Europe now surpasses that to, from and within North America, which "until
recently" was the largest aviation market in the world based on seats but
has witnessed severe capacity declines in recent years, OAG said. The number of
available seats for all service to, from or within North America this month is
99 million, compared with Europe's 105.5 million seats. Asia now is the largest
aviation market in the world with nearly 110 million seats.
OAG reported the number of
flights also continues to grow in Europe, by 5 percent this month. Of major
European markets, Rome is witnessing the most growth in
passenger seats this month with 9 percent more than August 2009, OAG reported, followed
by Frankfurt and Amsterdam, both witnessing 6 percent growth.
