Northwest Airlines today said it is joining three of its legacy peers in charging coach customers $25 to check a second piece of luggage, effective for bookings made on or after March 29 for travel beginning May 5.
Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and US Airways also recently have upped the second checked bag fee
(BTNonline, March 18). Like those carriers, Northwest said it would absolve its elite level frequent flyers from the fee.
Northwest today said it also upped other baggage charges, raising from $80 to $100 the cost for three or more checked bags, and from $25 to $50 the fee to check luggage weighing more than 50 pounds.
