Marriott International is cutting corporate jobs across its global organization, the company confirmed to BTN on Thursday.
It wasn't immediately clear how many corporate employees would be affected employees nor which specific roles would be impacted. Marriott declined to specify any details.
"As part of Marriott International’s regular budget and planning process, the company continually evaluates how we prioritize our resources to be more effective and efficient," a Marriott spokesperson shared via email. "In some corporate disciplines, those efforts will result in job reductions and role changes, with new positions also being posted."
Posts about the layoffs have been published in recent days on Reddit, where users claiming to be Marriott employees referenced a recent email from Marriott CEO Anthony Capuano about upcoming layoffs. Posts in that same forum indicate the layoffs will impact human resources, IT, customer relations teams and the office of consumer affairs. The latter two segments operate within Marriott's Customer Engagement Centers, which have been under strategic review in recent months, according to Hotel Dive.
"These changes are largely being implemented across corporate disciplines that are global in scope," the Marriott spokesperson said. "We are not breaking out the number or specifics of impacted roles, but I can tell you that while some roles are being eliminated, many affected associates are expected to apply for and be selected for the new positions and will remain employed with the company."
In its last round of major layoffs two years ago, Marriott let go of more than 800 employees based in its Bethesda, Md. headquarters.
Skift first reported the impending layoffs.
Marriott will report its third-quarter earnings results on Monday.
