JetBlue has upped its checked-bag fees for the second time this year, with the fee for a first checked bag now reaching $70 on peak dates.
The fee for a first checked bag for Main Base, Main, Main Flex, EvenMore Base, EvenMore and EvenMore Flex tickets within the U.S., Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada now is $70 for peak flights and $60 for off-peak, according to JetBlue's website. Customers can save $15 and $10, respectively, if they add checked bags to the reservation prior to 24 hours before departure.
A second checked-bag fee is $85 peak, $75 off-peak. The early bag-check discount is $10 and $5, respectively.
JetBlue increased the early checked-bag savings for peak first bags to $15 from $10, but it reduced it to $5 from $10 for off-peak second checked bags.
Because the airline since has changed its cabins and fare categories, there is not a direct comparison to the previous checked-bag hike in March. The prior top price for a checked bag was $59 peak and $49 off-peak for first bags, and $79 peak and $69 off-peak for second bags.
BlueFirst, JetBlue's new first-class product scheduled to enter service in December, and Mint Base tickets have complimentary first checked bags. Second checked bags cost $85 and $75, peak and off-peak, respectively. Bookings in BlueFirst, BlueFirst Flex, Mint and Mint Flex are allowed up to two bags checked for free.
Status-level members of JetBlue's TrueBlue loyalty program receive bag-fee considerations. Mosaic 1 status-level members will continue to get a first checked bag for free, while a second bag will cost $85 peak or $75 off-peak. Mosaic 2, 3, and 4 status-level members are allowed two free checked bags.
JetBlue Plus and JetBlue Premier cardmembers each get a first bag included and now are charged $85 peak or $75 off-peak for a second bag.
Other carriers matched JetBlue's March increase in checked-bag fees, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines.
