Continental Airlines today announced a $15 fee for the first bags economy passengers check, leaving Delta Air Lines the lone legacy carrier not to have instituted such a charge.
The fee will not apply to EliteAccess customers, OnePass Elite and SkyTeam Elite members or travelers with full-fare economy tickets. It will apply immediately to domestic flights and for travel on or after Oct. 7 between the United States and Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Delta has no first-checked-bag fee, although the carrier intends to merge with Northwest Airlines, which in July
announced such a charge. American Airlines in May
became the first legacy carrier to institute such a fee, followed soon after by
United Airlines,
US Airways and Northwest.
