AA Final Legacy Carrier To Adopt Second-Bag Fee
American Airlines today became the last of the domestic legacy carriers to adopt a $25 charge for coach customers to check a second bag.
The charge goes into effect today for travel beginning May 12 on tickets purchased on American Airlines and its regional subsidiary American Eagle, the carrier said.
The carrier, like its Big Six brethren, said it would exempt some elite frequent flyer members and international itineraries, but also said it would shield purchasers of full economy fares from the fee. American estimated that only 4 percent of domestic customers would be subject to the charge.
