New joint-venture partners American Airlines and British Airways
have rescheduled their London Heathrow-New York JFK departures into what they
describe as a "transatlantic shuttle service." The carriers from the
start of the summer 2011 schedule on March 27 will offer a flight from Heathrow
every hour on the hour between 1:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. U.K. time, with an
additional three flights departing at spaced intervals earlier in the morning.
Previously, some daily AA and BA flights left Heathrow at almost
exactly the same time, leaving gaps of up to three hours between departures.
The two carriers, which in October 2010 launched their joint venture
with BA sister airline Iberia, similarly are realigning
schedules from Heathrow to Chicago and Miami.
