Continental Airlines and United
Airlines on Wednesday chose the rest of the senior management team for the merged
carrier, with the expectation that the board of the new United will approve these
appointments following the anticipated legal closing of the merger on Oct. 1.
The most senior officers for
the organization were named in late July.
Among those Continental
executives named as senior vice presidents in this latest round of
announcements were Dave Hilfman, who will be responsible for worldwide sales, Leon
Kinloch, who will head pricing and revenue management, Mark Bergsrud, who will
be responsible for marketing, and Greg Hart, who will head network planning and
scheduling. From United, Mark Schwab will be responsible for alliances and Tom
O'Toole will be chief operating officer of the loyalty business unit.
Reporting to Hilfman as vice
presidents will be Continental's John Slater, responsible for sales in the
Americas, Continental's Charles Duncan, responsible for sales in Europe, the
Middle East, India and Africa, and United's James Mueller, who will be
responsible for sales in the Asia/Pacific region.
United's Doug Leo will serve
as vice president of revenue management and pricing and Continental's Martin
Hand will report to Mark Bergsrud as vice president of customer experience and
call centers.
Also named as senior vice
presidents were Continental's Fred Abbott, who will head flight operations,
United's Scott Dolan, who will lead airport operations, United's Jim Keenan,
who will be in charge of technical operations, Continental's Gerald Laderman,
who will head corporate finance and serve as treasurer, United's Alexandria
Marren, who lead system operations control and United Express, United's Doug
McKeen, who will head labor relations, United's Rohit Philip, who will be in
charge of corporate strategy and business development, and Continental's John
Rainey, who will lead financial planning and analysis.
In a letter announcing these
appointments to employees, current Continental CEO Jeff Smisek, who will lead
the new United, said the company "will announce no later than Oct. 12 the
details of how the talent selection process for management and clerical co-workers
will work." While he reiterated that the merger would have minimal impact
on front-line employees, Smisek also said "no management and clerical
positions, other than those held by officers, will be eliminated as a result of
the merger before March 31, 2011."
