Amtrak customers now can choose preferred seats during the booking process in its mobile app on trains with assigned seating, the rail company announced Wednesday.
Routes with in-app seat selection include all Acela trains and business-class seats on the Northeast Regional, Palmetto, Vermonter and Carolinian trains, according to Amtrak.
The move comes after an Amtrak app update that also has enabled travelers to cancel entire trips or a portion of a trip through the app, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.
For active trips within 24 hours of departure, customers now can see train status and schedule adjustments when they launch the app. There's also a new "My Trips" tab with active, upcoming and past trips available.
In addition, Amtrak has included a station-to-station train tracker on the app and a redesigned home screen that separates tickets from marketing messages.
