South African Airways has brought back its former sales leader, Simon Newton-Smith, as its interim executive over its commercial team.
Newton-Smith was with the carrier for more than four years after joining as its VP of sales for North America in 2000. Since then, he spent more than 14 years in sales leadership roles at Virgin Atlantic and more recently was Qatar Airways' SVP of commercial strategy.
South African Airways earlier this year exited bankruptcy protection and is working to restart operations, which have been suspended since March 2020.
