Singapore Airlines plans to invest S$1.1 billion (US$835.5 million) on revamping the cabins on its 41 Airbus A350-900 long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft, the carrier announced Monday.
The airline said it would introduce a first-class cabin to its seven A350-900ULR aircraft that operate on "the world's longest routes," which are between Singapore and the United States, according to the carrier. The carrier did not provide details as to what the new cabin and seating would entail, only that they would be "plush" and "luxurious."
Business class also is getting an upgrade with "designs that will offer even greater levels of privacy, comfort and convenience," according to Singapore. Based on a short video the carrier provided, it appears there will be privacy doors for each seat.
Singapore added that the first and business seats will match the designs of those on the carrier's upcoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft, which is still in development.
In addition, Singapore will refresh the interiors of its premium economy and economy cabins, and its KrisWorld inflight entertainment system "will offer greater personalization and an extensive range of lifestyle options across all cabin classes."
The first retrofitted Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft is expected to enter service in the second quarter of 2025, with 42 business-class seats, 24 premium-economy seats and 192 economy seats, according to Singapore. The first A350-900ULR variant will follow in the first quarter of 2027, with four first-class seats, 70 business-class seats and 58 premium-economy seats. The project is projected to be completed by the end of 2030.
