Houston Airports, which manages both George Bush Intercontinental and William P. Hobby airports, has partnered with Amadeus to integrate Amadeus Flow, a cloud solution that uses a biometric process to manage the passenger experience from check-in to boarding, Amadeus announced Tuesday.
Passengers who enroll for biometrics, or facial recognition, will be able to check in, drop their bags, enter airline lounges and board their aircraft in a contactless process for Hobby Airport as well as for flights from terminals A and D from Bush, according to Amadeus.
New check-in kiosks, auto bag drop units and e-boarding gates powered by Amadeus will be installed as part of the new single platform. There will be more than 230 check-in positions with 110 of them offering biometric capability, according to the companies. The initial phase of the "passenger processing transformation" has begun, but Amadeus did not immediately clarify when the service would be available.
[Update, May 11] An Amadeus spokesperson told BTN that the company expects features including self-service bag drop to begin at Hobby in the third quarter and at Bush Intercontinental in 2023.
Amadeus partnered last year with Tokyo's Narita International Airport to test a similar biometric process.
