Travelers using Delta Air Lines' Basic Economy fares beginning Jan. 1, 2022, no longer will be able to earn miles in its SkyMiles loyalty program or toward Medallion status, the carrier announced. In addition, customers who redeem miles for a Basic Economy ticket departing on or after Jan. 1, 2022, can cancel their ticket and receive a portion of their miles back, following a cancellation charge deducted from the ticket value.
Delta recommends that passengers "who value greater flexibility, advanced seat selection, overhead bin space, no change fees and the continued ability to earn miles in the SkyMiles program and earn toward Medallion status" purchase a Main Cabin ticket or higher.
