American Express plans within the next two years to add two new Centurion airport lounges in Newark and London and expand two more in Philadelphia and Houston, the credit card company announced Thursday.
The company previously had announced a new lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport, located in Terminal A. However, American Express now plans for a 30,000-sq.-ft. space over two floors, up from 18,000 square feet, which will make it the largest lounge in the Centurion network, according to the company.
The lounge will include a Blue Roast by American Express Coffee and Wellness Bar; three distinct bar experiences and dining offerings created by James Beard Award-winning chefs including Kwame Onwuachi, Mike Solomonov, Mashama Bailey and Sarah Grueneberg.
The Newark Centurion Lounge is expected to open in 2027, and once open American Express will be the first credit card issuer to have proprietary lounges across all three major New York City metropolitan area airports, according to the company.
A second Centurion Lounge is planned for London Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5, joining the Centurion Lounge in Terminal 3. The 9,000-sq.-ft. space will include American Express' "signature amenities," including food-and-beverage offerings, dedicated work areas and a VIP area, according to the company. The lounge is expected to open in 2028. American Express will be the first credit card issuer with two proprietary lounges at Heathrow.
The expanded and renovated Centurion Lounge at Philadelphia International Airport will double to 12,000 square feet in size. The lounge will close on Oct. 16 for renovations and is expected to reopen by the end of 2027.
The Centurion Lounge at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport will nearly triple in size to 23,000 square feet. The space will feature a Blue Roast by American Express Coffee and Wellness Bar, a "specialty dining area" with plated dishes, a buffet, a second full-service bar and updated restrooms and shower suites.
The lounge will close "on an intermittent basis" during renovations beginning in December 2026. It is expected to be fully updated by 2028, according to the company.
