In January, the total consolidated dollar value of tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies increased 2.6 percent year over year to $8.9 billion, according to Airlines Reporting Corp. The average U.S. round-trip ticket price was $478.
The total number of passenger trips settled by ARC for its agencies rose 2.4 percent year over year to 28.4 million. U.S. domestic trips rose 3.6 percent year over year to 17.8 million while international trips rose nearly 0.4 percent to 10.5 million. The number of January passenger trips handled by agencies with at least 70 percent self-reported corporate and government business rose 1.9 percent.
Electronic miscellaneous document sales, which cover ancillary services like seat upgrades, rose 24.1 percent year over year to $8.6 million. EMD transactions rose 41.5 percent to more than 148,000.
