Sheraton Penang Links Guests To Internet
<I>Penang, Malaysia</I> - The Sheraton Penang Hotel may be one of the world's most high-tech properties. Penang, an area known as Malaysia's "Silicon Valley," is a beta site for technological amenities, said Ed Davie, president of ITT Sheraton's Asia Pacific Division. What works well here, he said, should ultimately be available at other high-end Sheratons.
The hotel's all-fiber, high bandwidth network brings to each room an Internet connection, e-mail, videoconferencing, video, CD quality music, links to home pages and business directories, links to the Sheraton Website for future reservations, and a virtual tour of the hotel's facilities.
And serious sports fans heading for Malaysia need not fret about losing contact with their favorite teams. Immediately upon arrival guests are asked to list their favorite sports teams, stocks they follow, industries of interest, newspapers they read and hobbies.
On a monitor located in each guest room, a ribbon, not unlike the familiar stock quotation ribbon, scrolls across the bottom of the screen. Guests can find the latest sports scores and quotations that they mentioned upon arrival. Travelers also can access the most current edition of a newspaper plus articles published 90 days earlier on their room screen.
The hotel also features a cyber lounge with four multimedia computers providing news, magazines, weather, information and stock market prices.
