<H1>DC Briefs</H1> Convention Ctr. Contract Awarded
A $14 million contract has been awarded to a development team headed by JBG Co. to manage construction of the new Washington Convention Center, the first phase of which is projected to open in 1999.
The Washington, D.C.-based company, which already has handled several construction projects including the four Seasons Hotel in Georgetown, will manage all major contracts for the $500 million convention center. In other convention center news, a groundbreaking is set to be held before the end of the year.
Beauty And The Beast
The nation's capital will play host to the highly acclaimed Broadway musical "Beauty and the Beast," which will run June through September.
Besides New York, Washington is the only East Coast stop for the $12 million Disney creation. The arrival of the production is expected to provide an added incentive for business and leisure travel to the region during the summer.

Gallaudet University, the renowned university for the deaf, has just debuted a marketing strategy designed to promote its new conference center in the private sector.
The conference center offers more than 17,000 square feet of meeting space, a 274-seat teleconferencing auditorium, 16 meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, a tiered classroom and a classroom with teleconferencing facilities. Olympic soccer mania will sweep into Washington this July as the city becomes one of only three venues outside of Georgia that won the right to host first-round games.
