Carey Drives For Intercity Traffic
Carey International this week announced a new regional city to city program targeted to business travelers who may be seeking an alternative amid slower airport processes. The new service will offer trips in its fleet of sedans, limousines, vans and minibuses, and also encourages travelers to see the sharing power of these vehicles, which can fit between three and 21 people comfortably, said Carey spokeswoman Joan Berkery.
Between the value of shared vehicles, 70 city pairs, point-to-point travel and the cost-savings of, say, five hours of productivity between New York and Washington, Carey is working a clear niche within a new business travel environment.
"We're absolutely targeting business travelers and we are definitely not trying to play on any fear of flying," Berkery said. "But there is a change in air travel that adds time to that trip." Trains, now also eyed as a certain alternative to flying, may be crowded and offer only limited schedules, she pointed out.
According to Carey, the idea for the program arose after the company completed 640 trips for stranded travelers in the week following Sept. 11.
