Kevin Maguire, the Global Business Travel Association's VP of the Latin America region and former BTN Travel Manager of the Year, died on Friday from stage four brain cancer, according to GBTA.
BTN named Maguire as Travel Manager of the Year in 2012 for his development of a consolidated travel program as the University of Texas at Austin's intercollegiate athletics division, including consolidating the department's ground transportation program to a single sourcing company. BTN also named Maguire as a best practitioner in 2010 and also in 2004, when he was travel manager for Tokyo Electron, for his work in collective buying.
Maguire was a longtime volunteer with the GBTA before joining its staff, having served on its board for more than 20 years as well as two terms as president and chairman, wrote GBTA CEO and executive director Scott Solombrino in a blog post. Maguire had been a strong advocate for the organization's expansion into Latin America in recent years, according to Solombrino.
"Once we agreed to move forward, he joined the staff and gave the last years of his life to build relationships in the region," Solombrino wrote. "Kevin's legacy in the Latam region will be felt forever."
Besides his work with UT, GBTA and Tokyo Electron, Maguire also worked in travel manager or consulting roles with Waste Management and Applied Materials.
