Philippine Airlines has agreed to become a member of the Oneworld airline alliance, the carrier and Oneworld announced Saturday at the International Air Transport Association annual meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The carrier was invited to join by the Oneworld governing board, although neither Philippine Airlines nor Oneworld provided a date for when its membership would begin.
Upon entry, the carrier will be the 16th member of the alliance. Members of the airline's Mabuhay Miles loyalty program will be eligible for reciprocal opportunities to earn and redeem miles and points across all Oneworld member carriers. Its eligible to- tier customers also will have access to Oneworld priority benefits and to more than 700 premium airport lounges, according to the alliance.
The other Oneworld members include Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian and SriLankan Airlines.
