The Abra Group, parent company of Avianca and Gol airlines, is adding its Insignia business-class cabin on select flights between South America and New York, the carrier announced.
Insignia by Gol is on Gol's newly launched route between Rio de Janeiro and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport, Gol's first long-haul international route since relaunching as more of a premium carrier rather than a low-cost one, according to Gol. The airline also announced that on Sept. 16 it will begin service between Rio and Lisbon, Portugal, and that flights between Rio and each Miami, Orlando, and Paris are in the works for future launch dates.
The Insignia by Gol cabin includes 20 lie-flat seats in a one-two-one configuration, amenity kits with products by Rio de Janeiro-based Granado, noise-canceling headphones and a 16-inch touchscreen entertainment system, according to the carrier. Insignia by Gol customers also get priority check-in and boarding, access to Gol Smiles lounges and partner lounges at select destinations, and priority baggage delivery and disembarkation. This route is operated with Airbus A330 aircraft.
Avianca on Aug. 4 will add its Insignia business-class cabin on flights between Bogotá and New York operated with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. (The carrier also operates Airbus A320 aircraft on the route, but Insignia is not on those flights.) The business-class cabin will include 20 lie-flat seats that come with a Mola Sasa amenity kit with Loto del Sur products, a welcome beverage, unlimited snacks, "curated" wines and spirits, seatback entertainment and priority service, according to Avianca. There also is a dedicated Insignia by Avianca check-in in Bogotá, access to airport lounges and priority boarding.
