U.S. carriers are capping fares for flights to the U.S. from Europe as they adjust schedules in the wake of the Trump administration's ban on non-U.S. citizens who have been to the EU's Schengen Area.
Delta Air Lines has announced several reductions across its transatlantic network, though most routes will continue to operate with reduced frequencies. The exception is service to the Italian cities in its network, which all are suspended or postponed, as well as seasonal service between New York and Copenhagen, pushed back from May 1 to May 21.
United Airlines said it would continue its regular schedule to Europe through March 19. After that, it will have daily service to Brussels, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, Manchester and Edinburgh as well as 18 daily flights to and from London, multiple flights to Frankfurt and Munich, three daily flights to Dublin and less than daily service to Lisbon.
European airlines are adjusting their schedules as well. Lufthansa, for example, plans to maintain some service to the U.S.—both Frankfurt and Zurich to both Chicago and Newark, Vienna to Chicago and Brussels to Washington—but is suspending all other U.S. service due to the restrictions.
(Update, March 13): American Airlines is cutting international capacity for the summer season by 34 percent, including cutting its international capacity by half. It is suspending flights from both Charlotte and Philadelphia to each Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich as of Friday as well as service between Raleigh/Durham and London Heathrow. Service is reduced on Heathrow routes from New York, Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago. American will keep flights from its hubs in Dallas-Fort Worth, New York and Miami to each Barcelona, Madrid and Paris going for at least one more week.
American is suspending some service to South America as well, including routes from Dallas-Fort Worth to Santiago, from both Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles to São Paulo and to Buenos Aires from each Miami, New York, Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles. In addition, the carrier is ending service between Miami and Cordoba, Argentina.
The carrier expects suspended flights to resume as early as May 7.
