An eight-year veteran of chauffeured transportation supplier Carey International is assuming the leadership of the company following the resignation of CEO Devin Murphy earlier this month. Carey now will be in the hands of COO Gary Kessler, who has worked for the company since January 1999 in the roles of general counsel, executive vice president of operations and, most recently, executive vice president and COO. Kessler will assume the title of president as well as retain the COO title.
"Mr. Kessler has helped develop the company and create a firm foundation on which Carey can continue to grow," Carey board chairman Robert Tarr said in a prepared statement. "Gary has driven innovation and excellence in overseeing Carey's industry-leading meeting and event division and has directed the development of the most advanced reservations center in the world for chauffeured services."
Murphy, who worked for Carey for more than 10 years, announced his resignation on Jan. 10.
Carey is the leading provider of chauffeured transportation in terms of business travel revenue, according to Business Travel News' 2006 Business Travel Survey
(BTN, May 29, 2006). The company reported systemwide revenue of $364 million, 95 percent of which came from business travel.
