British Airways plans to offer new service
between London Heathrow and Paris Orly airports, effective Jan. 10, 2011. Seats
go on sale on Nov. 16. BA will fly twice-daily from Monday to Saturday, with no
flights on Sundays.
The launch of the new service is significant for
business travelers because Orly, the French capital's second-largest airport, is 12
miles from the city center, whereas Charles De Gaulle is 17 miles away.
"This news will be welcomed by many
companies in Paris," said Nicolas Borel, former travel manager for the air
transport telecommunications company Sita, and now chief executive of travel
management consultancy opTmo. "Orly is closer to most businesses in the
center of the city, but it tends to be used for flights to leisure
destinations."
The schedule has been coordinated to facilitate connections to the
services of BA subsidiary OpenSkies, which operates business-class-only flights
from Orly to Newark and Washington.
